AN5/13096 The Chook Shed Car

This car was acquired in 1975 as a very rusty rolling shell with no other parts attached. I stored it in a disused chicken coop, and it was always known as the Chook Shed car.

By 1983, I had enough parts to assemble it, and of course it takes up less space if it is all in one piece. A complete bare metal rebuild was completed by The Hills Prestige Car Repairs, during which time I rebuilt all the mechanical components. Whilst visually original (well, mostly) the car was fitted with extractors, 1 1/4" SU carbies, 8" front drum brakes and big wide 5" wheels! The engine had a factory "red" crank, flat-top pistons, 11:1 compression etc etc.

The Chook Shed car was completed the day before the January 1985 Historic Race meeting at Oran Park, south of Sydney. It finished mid-field, quite an achievement considering it raced with all trim and bumper bars. It was driven from the race directly to the spectator area where the Sprite Car Club of Australia was holding it's annual Concourse d'Elegance. After a quick change to 3 1/2" wheels and cross ply tyres, the car took out first place in the Concourse.

Reluctantly I sold the car in 1995, it sold again in 2000 and most recently July 2004. The photos were taken in July 2004, 20 years after the restoration.
